The Rother Rockets Girls Basketball club is the end result of the ‘This Girl Can‘ initiative driven by Sport England to increase girls participation in sport. In a joint venture with England Basketball, 3 experienced coaches were employed to deliver an Activators Award which promotes young leaders to deliver basketball sessions in their own schools.

Over 400 students from 30 schools in Rother Mid Sussex and Eastbourne gained the award. A further 15 went on to complete their level 1 coaching qualification.  Our Rother group was keen to continue playing and coaching thus leaving a lasting legacy of female basketball.

Our mission

• To provide opportunities for competitive girls basketball
• To improve skills and team play through regular training.
• To ensure girls basketball clubs run in the Rother secondary schools
• To use leaders and coaches to promote basketball in primary development days
• To host the Hastings and Rother 3v3 Secondary Schools Tournament.
• To forge a partnership University of Brighton Womens team to enter team in Sussex Ladies Cup
